Stop your vehicle and remain at the scene of the accident.
Move your vehicle out of the traveled highway as long as it is safe, clear, and legal (in some states it is against the law to move the vehicle from the place where the accident occurred. Check the ordinance in your area).
Turn off the ignitions of all vehicles involved.
Make a first aid check of all persons involved.
Call police, even if the accident is minor. If serious or life threatening injuries exist, call 911 for medical services.
If available, mark the accident scene with flares or retro reflective triangles to alert approaching traffic.
Exchange driver information. Ask to see the other driver's license and write down their name, driver's license number, as well as their vehicle license number. Exchange insurance company information. DO NOT discuss "fault" or make statements about the accident to anyone but the police.
Write a description of the accident scene. Make a diagram noting the vehicles' direction of travel, lane locations, seating positions of vehicle occupants, weather conditions, and date and time of accident. Write down the names of all occupants in the accident vehicles, as well as the names and phone numbers of any witnesses.
Make sure your vehicle is safe and able to be driven before leaving the accident scene. If the vehicle is not safe to be driven, call DIRECT COLLISION (614-944-6145) to arrange for it to be towed.
Get a copy of the police report from the attending police department (generally within 3 to 5 days after the accident).
